Subject object project - research

Stephen smith's new illustration or a poster
http://neasdencontrolcentre.com/invisible-chaos-theory/

This theory thingy kind of matches my CHAOS thing in the subject object project.

There was Henrik Drescher.  http://www.hdrescher.com/
I am pretty sure I did research on him before.  probably in Joh's project.
His illustrations are so amazing.  It's a bit messy but very convincing.

Bob Grill
I love his drawings.  He has a great sense of humour in his illustrations and posters.  I read his book:

The poster was awesome.    The contrast of the bubbly font and David the statue which is ancient and historic , was so much fun.    It really made the audience laugh.

Bloody dirty wicked BARBIE- Mariel Clayton

His official web:
http://www.thephotographymarielclayton.com/#!

His Barbie photoshots were so good.  You know we usually see barbie as the over-perfection of human bodies.  You either love it crazily or you hate it very very much.   Clayton used Barbie as models of scenes in daily life and in the drama.  Very dramatic.     The shots makes me feel Barbie is no extraordinary person, just like every one of us.   She has negative feelings, she argued with her boyfriend, she gets period and bleeds like fountain.

The shots actually let the audience to illustrate a more complex story themselves.  I see blood and barbie holding a gun and Ken's body parts.   Wow this is got to be Dexter or Twilight.  They love then they bleed yay.

Perform Project

Can't get the video but only photos
The song we used is Talking Heads Nothing but Flowers.

So yah we were Props.   We made houses and billboards and buildings , out of cardboard boxes.   And we girls were part of the waves and leaves .      Kind of embarassing actually.  I was not used to perform or to be part of the performance.

Animal Project

I made this beast.  It was quite fun.  We are asked to use only colours.  I love outlines and shapes so making colour-dominent images is a real challenge to me.

P.S. I miss this pretty goat in Vauxhall farm

Subject/Object Project

Project was done! Yayyyy

So I made a poster.  The main message is "People don't notice anything."  From the videos of Shanghai stampede,  I saw people looking at their belly or staring on the ground.  They were quite unaware of what's happening around them.   Or we can called it "Navel Gazing".

I love the font.  It feels like proverb, or a piece of fact. or a golden saying that people needs to know.

The crit was over.  I was suggested to make the image more side-view, so others can get a better picture of the bending figures.

More images:

I made these cheese fingers figures.  These are human to me, with heads down, eyes down.   I tried to make it simple cos drawing realistically or outlining human may be too complicated for the message.  I want the audience to focus on the act itself, not human.

PEOPLE DON'T NOTICE ANYTHING

People don't notice anything

will probably by the main message of my poster. (subject/object project)
Keywords: CHAOS n GREED

So I watched the videos of the Shanghai Stampede in New Years Eve.  People were out of control.   They were all very busy looking at their belly,  trying to look for a space to move or escape, escape from the chaos and the crowd.   In fact they are making the chaos.   No control, looking for individual's advantage , desire, strong desire, greed , chaos.

Joe said it could be called Navel Gazing .   very self-absorbed.

ATMOSPHERE n MOOD my vital elements

I love drawing on site.  It was very different from drawing from images. You can capture more details in images but not the actual mood. There are much more possibilities when you stop thinking about drawing details but capturing the essence of the architecture, the atmosphere and the temperature of the site.

Working as a group

I didn’t realize I was very passive in working a set with a huge sum of people before we had to make a set for the “Great expectation” project. I like group work, especially cooperating with colleagues.  Yet working with a huge sum of colleagues was just tough, especially in the beginning since everyone gave out comments, instead of preceding the discussion.  Our organization was quite poor.   And we only cared for our own ideas but barely try to correspond.   It was my weakness and I ought to be more active and positive next time.    Raise my voice and do better.

Oh yah talking about group work, the same thing happened in the Perform Project in the beginning of the course.  All of us were split into groups and worked out props or script or costumes.   It was fun.  But perhaps we were so unfamiliar to one another, that made corporation difficult.

Collagraph (Layers of Camber Sands)

I saw the Janine Denby’s work that was really impressive.

Then I decided to make a collagraph of camber sands.
I was obsessed with the mood of the beach so I took hints from my location drawings.

My faith is to bridge up the viewers to develop deliberations between the story and the atmosphere given.  It was fun to do so.  I wish I could have made a bigger one so I can put more details and test with some other materials in the plate.

printing workshops

Working in the workshops was amazing.  I made my first etching print.  The prints weren’t very good but I really liked the metal plate itself. Honestly, it was not hard to produce a pretty image.  Whatever you draw on the plate, it looks amazing.  So if everyone can make an amazing print, how can artist or I make sure our images are better than non-artist?  I thought about this question throughout the whole process.   Maybe the difference between artist’s work and non-artist’s work is that we have a background, a reason or a meaning behind the work of art.  That makes our work splendid.

Greed and Chaos, what else?

So we did something on thursday.  we had posters sharing and image bank building and making a composition of the above (collage).    I felt quite miserable, to be honest.

My keywords are "Greed" and "Chaos"
I havent really thought about the project.  I didn't have a concise plan of what I want to do.  So for now, I would like to focus on the things happened at that moment, on the stampede itself.   I made some attempts to make the crowd in the story to be animals.  Animals are honest and non-materialistic.  They do what they want.   They live to survive.  So people in the stampede , mostly, i think, wanted to survive.  So I put animals and the crowd runnning around , trying to get away from danger.

Yet Joe told me to be careful with my keywords.  She didnt think Chaos should be the message, i guess she was trying to say this is too easy(?)   And "Greed" is very complex in meaning, it could apply to various situations.  Maybe I should define it first and see if it applied to the stampede.  Greed could be the desire to take something away from others.   Maybe?

And then one of my friends told me to develop a more in-depth message for the project.  Like she's doing "Treasure time, don't say stuffs that hurt others."    Golden sayings.
I dont know.  I dont like these sayings.  Well I know they are good.  They are useful.  But how could we know what we could learnt from these or how do the victims feel?   We aint them.     We cant build a conclusion for them and their feelings.    We are the thrid party, the observers only.   We stay safe, but the victims did not .  We don't know how they feel when the incident broke out.    We can never express it for them.

So yah, it was still, very confusing for me to figure out things in the project.   I made no progress this week.
